Master index · Pick a route
One hour south of Chengdu, the Pengshan–Meishan corridor along the Min River holds the 19 guides we have written. This page is the master index, sorting them into four routes — food, history & culture, easy day trips, and self-drive. Pick a line that fits your time and interests, and go. Every route ends the same way: braised meats in Gongyi town and a sweet-skin duck for the road home.
At the heart of this route is luwei — from three thousand years of brining history to a bowl of chile oil, then how to buy, ship and store it:
· Sweet-skin duck buying guide — how to pick a good bird and what makes Pengshan's version special
· The history of Chinese luwei — three thousand years in one pot of master brine, plus how to order on your first visit
· Liangban pork — the signature cold dish: the cut, the poach, the three-layer dressing
· How to make Sichuan chile oil — pepper ratios, rapeseed oil and the two-pour method
· Vacuum packing & nationwide delivery — how to order and what ships well
· Chengdu & Meishan souvenir guide — what's actually worth taking home
· Gongyi market day — the even-day country market; eat your way through this route
For: food lovers and gift shoppers. Time: half a day to a full day.
Pengshan was ancient Wuyang — the world's first recorded tea market, 4,580 Han tombs, a Three Kingdoms commandery seat, and the home of longevity culture:
· Pengshan history in one page — start here for context
· Wuyang: the world's first tea market — eight characters in a 59 BC contract and two thousand years of tea
· Jiangkou cliff tombs — 4,580 Han tombs, the bronze money tree, the "world's first kiss" (free)
· Three Kingdoms trail — relics of the Shu-Han Jianwei commandery
· Why Pengshan lives long — longevity data, Pengzu's wellness culture and centenarian tables
For: history lovers and families on a cultural outing. Time: a full day (pick 2–3 stops).
Ready-made one-day itineraries — just follow along:
· Sansu Ci day trip — Su Dongpo's hometown from Chengdu, CNY 40 entry, plus the water street at night

Using Pengshan as a start or resupply point toward Leshan, Western Sichuan and the G318:
· Western Sichuan & G318 self-drive guide — routes, passes, altitude sickness and resupply; the longest guide on this site
· What to eat on the drive to Leshan — food along the Chengdu–Leshan expressway
· Getting to the shop from Chengdu — driving directions in detail
For: drivers and outdoor types. Tip: loading up on vacuum-packed braised meats in Gongyi town before entering Western Sichuan is the standard move on this route.
Half a day: Pengzu Mountain + lunch in Gongyi town; or cliff tombs + Jiangkou old town + a duck to go.
A full day: Sansu Ci + Dongpo Water Street; or Huanglongxi + Gongyi town; or cliff tombs + Shipwreck Museum + Gongyi town.
Two days: Day 1 Sansu Ci + downtown Meishan (overnight); Day 2 Pengzu Mountain + cliff tombs + braised meats before driving back to Chengdu.
Just passing through: heading toward Leshan, Western Sichuan or the G318? Exit at the Pengshan toll gate — 20 minutes to pack the duck, then back on the road.
Q: How do I chain these stops efficiently? A: Use Gongyi town as the hub: ~55 km south of Chengdu, ~15 km from Pengzu Mountain, ~13 km from Jiangkou, ~30 km from downtown Meishan (Sansu Ci), ~21 km from Huanglongxi. Make Gongyi your lunch stop and slot one sight before and one after.
Q: Best season? A: Year-round. Lunar March 3rd for the Pengzu Mountain fair, summer for the Sansu Ci lotus, July–August for Pengshan grapes, autumn for Western Sichuan drives, winter–spring for local citrus.
Q: Which route suits non-Chinese speakers? A: This site's guides come in Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean for the main sights; the food route and the day-trip route are the most foreigner-friendly — simple menus, direct transport.
Almost every route on this page passes Pengshan: Gongyi Guoshi Luwei sits at 188 Guanbao Road, Gongyi Town, about 20 minutes off the Pengshan toll gate — a 20-year shop whose Sweet-Skin Duck and Liangban Pork come vacuum-packed, easy to eat on the road or take home.
All guides on this site are available in Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean (a few local-interest pieces are Chinese-only).
